Nucleosynthesis in stellar flares
نویسنده
چکیده
Nuclear interactions of ions accelerated at the surface of flaring stars can produce fresh isotopes in stellar atmospheres. Although this nucleosynthesis is not significant for the chemical evolution of the Galaxy, it can be important for a number of measurements of “anomalously” high Li and Li abundances. We discuss the possible role of stellar flares to explain the recent report of high Li abundances in metal-poor halo stars and the well-established correlation between Li abundance and stellar activity in young open clusters. We then study the possibility of observing directly Li production during flares of nearby and active dwarfs of spectral type M.

Light element (Li, Li and Be) depletion isochrones for halo stars have been calculated with standard stellar evolution models. These models include the latest available opacities and are computed through the sub-giant branch. If Li is not produced in appreciable amounts by stellar flares, then the detection of Li in HD 84937 by Smith, Lambert & Nissen (1993) is compatible with standard stellar ...
متن کاملPOSITRON-EMITTER PRODUCTION IN SOLAR FLARES FROM 3He REACTIONS
We treat in detail positron production from the decay of radioactive nuclei produced in nuclear reactions of accelerated 3He. Because of their large cross sections and low threshold energies, these reactions can significantly contribute to positron production in solar flares with accelerated-particle compositions enriched in 3He. The addition of these 3He reactions extends earlier calculations ...

متن کامل7Li PRODUCTION IN SOLAR FLARES
The Y ohkoh satellite has registered X-ray spectra of two solar Ñares with a linelike feature in the region 400È500 keV. Analysis shows that this feature can be interpreted as gamma-ray lines from excited 7Li and 7Be produced from a ] a reactions. The 7Li production rate in the solar atmosphere is estimated from these observations. The lower limit on the Ñare-produced 7Li abundance on the Sun i...
